The Hudson’s Detroit development’s first announced retail tenant is athletic apparel company Alo Yoga.

Bedrock LLC, Dan Gilbert’s real estate company, announced the store Friday. Alo Yoga is slated to open late this summer in the $1.4 billion project in downtown Detroit.

Naumann Idrees, senior vice president of leasing for Bedrock, said in the announcement that “ … Alo’s dedication to wellness and community complements the city’s vibrancy and growth.”

Additional details, such as the square footage of the store, were not immediately available. An email was sent to spokespeople for both Bedrock and Alo on Friday afternoon.

Alo Yoga has a store in Somerset Collection in Troy, although it’s not known whether that store is relocating to downtown or whether the Hudson’s Detroit location will be a second outpost for the company.

Gilbert hasn’t been mum about Bedrock’s desire to bring Alo Yoga to downtown. He referenced the Beverly Hills, Calif.-based retailer 18 months ago when rattling off retailers he’d like to lure to the central business district. Others included Apple (which is confirmed to be opening a store); Levi’s, Lego and the Lush cosmetics brand.

Alo Yoga is expected to open a store in Dan Gilbert’s Hudson’s Detroit project late this summer.

Alo Yoga started in 2007; its name stands for “air,” “land” and “ocean.” It also reportedly is a favorite brand of celebrities like Taylor Swift, Jennifer Lopez, Bella Hadid, LeAnn Rimes, Kendall Jenner, Alessandra Ambrosio and others.

The Alo Yoga store at 1272 Woodward Ave. will be located just south of one of its competitors, Lululemon, which is at 1459 Woodward Ave.

The 1272 Woodward Ave. address is the so-called “block” office building component of Hudson’s Detroit where General Motors Co. is moving its global headquarters.

A month ago, Bedrock revealed the 56,000-square-foot event space in the office building, which is officially called The Department at Hudson’s. The Ven Johnson Law Firm will also be taking about 20,000 square feet in that building.

The Hudson’s Detroit project started construction in late 2017 on the site where the towering J.L. Hudson’s department store once stood at Woodward and East Grand River avenues. The project consists of the 12-story office building and a skyscraper, which clocks in at a little over 685 feet and consists of a 227-room Edition Hotel — part of the Marriott International brand — and 97 for-sale condominiums.

The project received a $60 million-plus tax break in 2022 and is part of a grouping of Gilbert-led developments that received $618.1 million  in so-called “transformational brownfield” funding.

The project’s formal name — Hudson’s Detroit — was announced last year and the skyscraper component topped out about a year ago. The construction elevator was removed earlier this year.
