A waterfront mansion in Genesee County is for sale for the first time since being built more than 20 years ago.
Priced at $5.25 million, the home was custom built in the early 2000s for Betty Salimi and her husband, Dr. Rabbi Salimi, who died in 2018.
The home was “built with a lot of love and joy,” Salimi told Crain’s this week, adding that the couple particularly enjoyed the planning process.
“I don’t think we wanted the process to end,” Salimi said with a laugh. “The architects finally said, ‘I think you’ve made all the changes you could make here and it’s time to put a shovel in the ground.’”
In particular, Salimi said she and her husband enjoyed the myriad possibilities for materials, and now after 20 years, the house maintains a “timeless” quality, she said.
But now with grown children living out of the state, Salimi said she’s ready to downsize from the 9,500-square-foot house with five bedrooms and six-and-a-half bathrooms.

Among those materials are Brazilian cherry floors, pearwood doors for the library, multiple fireplaces with limestone and onyx, as well as granite and glass countertops and a Kohler waterfall tub in one of the bathrooms, according to the listing.
“This is more than a home,” the listing reads. “It’s an elevated lifestyle on one of Michigans (sic) most desirable lakes.”
Located in Fenton Township just off U.S. 23, the 1-acre property offers nearly 400 feet of frontage on a peninsula of Silver Lake.
That’s the same lake where a 13,000-square-foot home listed last year by former Diplomat Pharmacy CEO Phil Hagerman, which carried an asking price of $8 million.

Records show that home sold in February for $5.2 million, a 35% drop from the listing price.
The former Hagerman property was among those used as a comparable to help come up with a listing price for the Salimi home, said listing agent Dylan Tent with the Northville office of Sotheby’s International Realty.
Ultimately, the home and property offer “a lot of value,” Tent said. A likely buyer, he said, would be someone who has explored building new and wants lakefront property.

“But to build a home of that size, you’re going to spend way more than $5 million,” Tent said, noting that a lot purchase alone would likely be $1 million or more. “On paper, (the Salimi home) is a great value.”
For her part, Salimi said Genesse County is generally not top of mind for high-end buyers, but given the location, freeway access to metro Detroit and Ann Arbor, as well as the waterfront, the property should be desirable.
“It’s a beautiful area and the lake is a gorgeous lake,” Salimi said. “Maybe that will help overcome the reputation of Genesee County.”
